Figures are taken from providers' published course information. "About" means we've estimated a figure from the available details. "Not stated" means we couldn't verify a published number. Prices and access terms were checked on the dates shown.

What matters when choosing a CPA review course?

Your choice depends on how you study, how much support you want and how long you'll need access. These are some practical differences worth checking before you buy. We haven't tested these courses ourselves, so check the details before you buy.

  • Budget

Universal CPA Review has the lowest upfront full-course price among the options currently listed, at $299 for three months. Before comparing it with longer-access packages, consider whether three months is enough for your study plan. Its Lifetime Package, at $999, doesn't expire.

  • Retakes

If you expect to need more time, look closely at extension and retake policies. Some packages offer access until you pass, while others have fixed expiry dates or paid renewal options. UWorld Elite-Unlimited ($2,399), Becker Pro ($2,499) and Gleim Premium ($2,999) run until you pass, on each provider's conditions. Becker Advantage ($2,499) runs for 24 months, with a conditional extension.

    Compare the retake terms
  • Live teaching

Live classes and live tutoring aren't the same thing. Check whether a package includes structured teaching, group question sessions or one-to-one help, and whether that support costs extra. Becker Pro ($2,499) includes live online classes and Becker Advantage ($2,499) doesn't; UWorld Elite-Unlimited ($2,399) includes live boot camps; NINJA's Full Course ($87 a month) includes live online group tutoring rather than classes.

    Compare Becker and UWorld
  • Practice questions

A larger question bank gives you more questions to practise, but the totals may cover different numbers of exam sections. Compare the type of practice available as well as the headline count. Gleim publishes the largest bank we compare, 12,000+ multiple-choice questions and 1,200+ simulations, and sells it on its own as the CPA Mega Test Bank for $999.

    See all Gleim packages
  • Monthly billing

A monthly subscription avoids a large upfront payment, but the total cost rises with each month you study. Work out the likely cost over your own timetable: NINJA's Full Course is $87 a month for one section at a time, so a year costs $1,044, and its Supplement is $67 a month.

Every provider presents its packages differently. We bring the prices, features and access terms together in one place, using information from the providers' own websites.

  1. 1Compare full-exam and single-section options

Use the tabs above to explore packages covering multiple sections or individual sections. Check exactly which sections each package includes.

  2. 2Check how long access lasts

Some courses include a fixed access period, while others charge monthly. A lower upfront price may mean less time to study, so check the terms before comparing costs.

  3. 3Look beyond the price

Compare practice questions, simulations, lessons, mock exams and support. Our provider pages cover the individual packages in more detail.

The exam Blueprints are free. What does a review course add?

The AICPA and NASBA provide free exam resources. Paid review courses offer additional ways to study, but what's included varies by package.

Free CPA Exam resources

You can use these resources without buying a review course:

  • AICPA exam Blueprints explaining what each section tests.
  • AICPA sample tests to help you explore the exam format.
  • NASBA's Candidate Guide covering applications, exam procedures and scores.
What a review course may include
  • Video lessons or live teaching.
  • Extra practice questions with explanations.
  • Task-based simulation practice.
  • Study plans and revision materials.
  • Mock exams that help you practise under exam conditions.
  • Access to tutors or other learning support.

Features vary by provider and package.

16

The CPA Exam has four sections, each lasting four hours. You'll take three Core sections and one Discipline of your choice. That's 16 hours of testing, not the time you'll need to prepare.

We check more than the price.

We've reviewed 26 packages across five providers, including full-exam and single-section options. We record when prices and terms were checked, so you can see how recent the information is.

What we do for every package

  1. Check what's included: we read each provider's published package details and record the main study resources.
  2. Review access and retake terms: we check how long access lasts and what happens if you need more time or have to retake a section.
  3. Record prices and sources: we record the published price, its source and the date we checked it.
  4. Update when we verify: we revisit provider pages and update the information when we can confirm a change.

One of our founders is studying for CFA Level II, so we know how much time choosing a prep course can take. We haven't sat the CPA Exam ourselves, which is why we base our comparisons on published provider information rather than personal claims about the courses.

What we haven't verified. We haven't personally tested every course, and we don't present provider-reported pass rates as verified results. Our comparisons use published course information, with sources and checking dates provided wherever possible. More about us.

Questions candidates ask

Which CPA review providers do you compare?

We compare Becker, Gleim, NINJA CPA Review, Universal CPA Review and UWorld. Each provider has its own page showing available packages, prices and access terms. UWorld's CPA review courses are also offered through Surgent following the acquisition. We currently compare the UWorld course range rather than listing the same products twice. Promotions may differ between purchase channels, so check the price at checkout.

How do you make money?

Some providers pay us a commission when you buy. Those links are marked. A link that pays us is marked "Paid link". Whether a provider pays us or not doesn't affect the order we show providers or the information we publish about them.

Do I need a review course for the CPA Exam?

No. You don't have to buy a review course to sit the CPA Exam. The AICPA provides free exam Blueprints and sample tests, and NASBA publishes guidance for candidates. A paid review course can provide structured lessons, practice questions, simulations and other study tools. Whether it's worth buying depends on how you prefer to study and what support you need.

What does "access until you pass" mean?

It depends on the provider. Some packages let you keep studying until you pass, while others require you to meet conditions, such as completing study requirements or providing proof of an exam booking. Always check the exact terms, including any extension fees or eligibility requirements, before buying. We include the available access information in our package comparisons.

What do the numbers in the comparison mean?

MCQs are multiple-choice questions, and simulations are practical, task-based exam questions. We also show video hours and mock exam counts where that information is available. "About" means we've estimated a figure using published provider information. "Not stated" means we couldn't verify a published number. We show access periods and billing separately because packages aren't always directly comparable on price alone.

Do you have a CPA course matching quiz?

Not currently. You can use our CPA comparison table to compare the five providers, then explore their individual packages in more detail. Our head-to-head comparisons can also help if you're deciding between two providers.

How up to date are the CPA review prices?

We show the date each price was last checked against the provider's website. Prices and promotions can change, so always confirm the final price and terms before purchasing. Where a provider displays both an original price and a discounted price, we show both.
